ORIGIN
On the Finca El Roble farm in the Chalatenango region of northern El Salvador, Roberto Deraz grows a soft and sweet coffee. Roberto started his coffee production in 2009, when he was given 500 coffee plants and had to ask his father for advice on how to plant and care for them. Today he grows coffee on just under 1.5 hectares of land.
El Salvador is also known as the “land of volcanoes” because despite its small size (about half the size of Denmark), it has over 100 volcanoes, many lava fields and crater lakes. The Chalatenango region is no exception and is often the site of earthquakes. The volcanic soil does something special for El Salvador coffees, which has led to a great interest in specialty coffee from this particular country.
