ORIGIN
Classical, fruity Kenya coffee from the border between the Nyeri and Kirinyaga regions. This coffee is from the Karii processing plant - a factory, as it is called in Kenya. Here the coffee is sorted, washed, dried, prepared and bagged for export. The Karii Factory is used by approximately 600 small coffee producers and is owned by the Mutira Farmer Cooperative Society.
Karii Factory and the coffee farms that use the facility are located in central Kenya. The area is rainy; around 1200 mm of rain falls annually. The soil is nutrient-rich and volcanic, providing excellent conditions for growing the distinctive, fruity Kenyan coffee.
In response to climate change, which is a major challenge for Kenyan coffee production, Karii farmers have started to grow their coffee among other crops that can provide shade.
This washed coffee from Karii has a delicious fruit juice-like sweetness, with notes of berries, plus dried- and jammy fruit.
